Good morning! I hope everyone had an excellent long weekend.
Remember Open House is Thursday, September 6, at 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.
Here is a look at our week:
Reading: A majority of our reading block this week has been taken by testing. Yesterday (Tuesday), we completed our NWEA math test! I was very proud of how the students' took their time to do their best work. Today, we will be completing the NWEA Reading assessment. Later in the week, we will finish our small group reading and learn the routine of our center time.
Math: In math this week, we began with rounding. We looked at how we could use the number line to determine how close a number is to the given place. For example, if we are looking at the number 1,246 and we are asked to round it to the nearest hundred. We can draw a number line that starts at 1,200 and ends at 1,300. Finally, we place the number within the number line. We will notice that 1,246 is not passed the half way point. Therefore, the 2 in the hundreds place will remain the same and the tens and ones place will become zeros (1,200).
As the week continues, we will be shifting our attention to multi-digit addition and subtraction.
Spelling: Unit 1 Week 1 long vowels (If practicing on Spelling City, students will be using the blue spelling list)
Social Studies: In social studies this week, we are continuing to work on map skills. We will be shifting over to using latitude and longitude. This can be a difficult concept. We will spend both of our social studies days learning and understanding this idea. We will be able to locate a place on a map using approximate latitude and longitude points.
Montana History: In Montana History, we are continuing to build our background knowledge on where Montana is located. We will first review the seven continents of the world and then bring in our focus to North America before we head into next week.
