Good morning!
Thank you for a great first couple days of school. Also, I would like to thank you for how timely that paperwork from the Tuesday Envelope was returned!
Each week I will post an overview of our week. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact me through email or FreshSchools.
Reading: In reading, we are jumping right into our first week of Wonders. Our focus question is Where do good ideas come from. We are looking for original ideas in our readings, as well, as our experiences. Our Comprehension focus for the week is predictions, and our comprehension skill is to be able to identify characters, setting, and plot.
Math: In math, we are opening up or Go Math series to begin looking at Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction to One Million. Today we will be looking at place value specifically. We will be able to identify the value of any given digit within a number. On Tuesday, we will be renaming numbers. Students should be able to write numbers in word form (two hundred twenty-eight), standard form (228), and expanded form (200+20+8). On Wednesday, We will be comparing and ordering numbers. This will require us to use our understanding of place value. Finally, on Friday, we will work on rounding numbers to a given digit.
On Thursday, we will have our Math Mix- Up. For the next four weeks, we will be rotating as a whole class to the four different fourth grade teachers. For this week, our classes will be staying with their teachers. We will be working on reviewing our multiplication facts through a couple different games.
English language arts: In language this week, we will begin our first writing piece. We will be writing a short narrative about our Summer. Today we began the brainstorming piece. As the week progresses we will continue with our prewriting activity, drafting our idea, and finally, type up the final product!
For grammar, we will be exploring sentences as a review. We will review capitalization and punctuation within a sentence.
Social Studies: In social studies, we will begin by exploring the regions of the United States. We will brush up our knowledge on the compass rose, map scales, and map symbols. We will also begin to explore lines of longitude and latitude to help us navigate within a map.
Important Note: On Thursday, August 31, we will be taking the SRI test at 8:30 A.M. Please be sure your student is well rested and eats breakfast that day! Thank you!
Early out at 2:00 on Wednesday!
