Good afternoon!
Here is a look at our week. It is a little different than normal, so please take a look.
Reading: In reading this week we are in our inquiry week. We are researching the natural disaster of our choice. We need to explain what the disaster is, how to prepare, what to do with it, and an example of that natural disaster happening somewhere in the world.
Spelling: There will be no spelling this week.
Math: In math, we are continuing to work on multiplication. On Monday, we explored how we can use mental math to find the product. This can be done by using friendly numbers (for example, 25. We are good with the number 25 because of we like quarters!) and breaking a number apart into tens and ones (254 is 200+50+4). As the week progresses, we will begin looking at the multiplication algorithm with two digit numbers and later - three and four-digit numbers.
Social Studies: In social studies, we will continue working on our group project on peopling. Students were put into groups of three to research one of the many different cultures present in the United States. These groups are the Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, European Americans, and Latinos.
Montana History: In Montana History, we are looking at Montana's average temperature in July, and then we will take a look at the Montana Flag.
English Language Arts: In writing, our focus is on personal narratives. Last week we wrote three personal narratives. The students were given 5 to 10 minutes to work on these prompts, and then choose their favorite of the three. We will be creating personal narratives with dialogue and figurative language.
Monday, October 16 from 10:55 to 2:30 we will be taking our field trip to the N.I.L.E. Remember to bring $4 and your signed permission slip! :)
The day of we will need a sack lunch.
