Good evening and happy Monday!
Today we got to meet our Junior Field student from MSUB, Ms. Schaff. She will be writing a letter introducing herself. Take a look for it in the Tuesday Envelope next week (October 3).
Reading: In reading we are starting Unit 1 Week 4. We will be focusing around this question: How can science help you understand how things work? We will be tackling this question using reread and cause and effect. These strategies will be utilized during small and whole group reading.
Reading Boost: This week marks the beginning of our reading boost on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will be mixing up our forth graders based on a particular skill every couple of weeks. This week we are focusing on inferencing. We will complete "The Great Garbage Mystery". Students will make inferences based on the trash I found from my neighbors garbage (not really - it is from my house!). We will then reading two books, The Stranger and Ben's Dream to work on making inferences. Students will also be making inferences as they guess what item was brought in each others "Inference" bag.
Spelling: Long and Short O
Math: In math we are starting chapter 2. This is the beginning of multiplication for us in forth grade. We will be exploring multiplicative comparisons and estimating products this week. An example of a multiplicative comparison is: 6 times as many as 5 is 30 or 42 is seven times as many as 6. We will also use this idea to help us solve word problems to identify the missing pieces.
Here is an example of a Multiplicative Comparison.
Montana History: This week we will be exploring some cities and mountains in Western, Central, and Eastern Regions of Montana.
Social Studies: In social studies we are continuing to explore the basics of Latitude and Longitude.
September Dates:
September 25: Inference Bags DUE!
September 27: NO PEAK AFTER SCHOOL (Mission Ridge Volunteering)
October Dates:
October 5: Fund Run
October 16: Box Tops DUE!
October 24: Picture Re-Takes
October 26: Halloween Family Fun Night
