Hello, everyone. Can you believe it is already the beginning of May?!
I sent out this important note on Fresh school Sunday evening:
Heritage Project: The half sheet slip of paper with the country of origin that will be studies and the family member that will be interviewed is due tomorrow. This will allow us to begin our research throughout the week. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. A detailed packet went home last Wednesday with information. Please make sure the packet makes it in your kiddo's backpack each night.
NWEA: We will begin our NWEA testing this Tuesday and Wednesday. We will take the reading and math tests. Please be sure to get a good nights rest and a healthy breakfast! We will be testing right away in the morning each day.
Bike/Walk Event: Wednesday, May 3 from 2:20 to 2:50.
Friday, May 4, there is no school.
Teacher Appreciation Week Fun: "Our Teachers Are Sun-Sational"
Monday: We are CRAZY about our teachers. (Crazy hair and sock day.)
Tuesday: Our teachers are so COOL! (Wear cool sunglasses to school.)
Wednesday: Our teachers SHINE! (Wear anything yellow to shine like our teachers.)
Thursday: Mahalo to our teachers! (Wear a Hawaiian shirt, skirt flowers in your hair, lei around your neck, etc.)
Here is an overview of our week:
Reading: We are now entering Unit 6: Past, Present, and Future. In reading our question this week is: Why it is important to keep a record of the past? We will be analyzing many pieces of historical fiction. We will be using rereading and theme as strategies to help us develop a deeper understanding of the text.
Math: In math, we will be wrapping up our study of angles. Tuesday we will have a review day. We will look at sample test questions and review how to draw and measure an angle. On Wednesday we will take our test.
Language/Writing: In writing, we completed our last class session for working on our persuasive writing. Students are now responsible for finishing this during rotation time at school and may even need to complete these pieces at home. They will be due to me on Friday, May 5th. The Heritage Project is going to be taking our writing time for the remainder of the school year. In grammar, we are shifting our attention from nouns to verbs!
Social Studies: In social studies, we are beginning our study of the Midwest.
Montana History: We will be looking at the route Lewis and Clark took on their exploration of the Louisiana Territory.
