Good morning!
Here is a look into our week:
Reading: In reading we will be working on two skills. The first will be predictions. We will practice making predictions and then confirming or revising our predictions based on what we have read in the story. The second will be point of view. We are looking to determine whether the narrator of the story is a first person or third person. For first person, we look for words like I, me, and my. Also, we check to see if the character telling the story is actually in the story. For third person, we are looking for an outside person telling the story. We will get to know all the characters and their thoughts are available to us. We often see names rather than pronouns.
Spelling: Unit 4 Week 3
Math: In math we are continuing with fractions. We are shifting away from creating equivalent fractions and moving towards comparing and ordering fractions. We are using many different strategies to meet our goals. From fractions strips to common denominators, the students are finding their own ways to be successful.
Writing: In writing we are continuing on our fictional pieces. Everyone has created a plan and started drafting their pieces. We should be finishing up our drafts by Friday and will use next week to peer conference and revise our work.
Montana History: Our focus is continuing to be on Native Americans. We have examined the importance of the bison. There was never one part of the bison that was wasted. It all had a use. Next, we will be looking at Tribal life in the 1700s.
Social Studies: We are finishing up our slides for chapter 4 this week. They are turning out really nicely. Next week we will be shifting our attention to the states and capitols in the Northeast Region.
Important Notes:
- Friday, February 24 we will be having a pizza party for Anthony's birthday. Students will not need to bring lunch. They have given an estimate of the number of pieces they would like, and breadsticks and cupcakes will be provided. There is no need to bring a lunch.
- Friday, February 24 is Flannel Friday. Please wear your best plaid or flannel shirts!
- Friday, February 24 we are having our classroom celebration. The students have chosen a Fort Day. The students can bring one blanket, one pillow, and one flashlight for this day of celebration.
