Good evening everyone!
Reading: In reading, we are focusing on what you can discover when you look at something closely? We are using our ability to summarize the reading, or specific paragraphs of the text, to gather a better understanding of what we read. Also, we are taking a look at sequencing, or the order of events. When looking for the use of sequencing, we search for transition words (first, next, last...).
Math: In math, we are finishing up our study of geometry. Today we did a review some of the major concepts. Lines are a big part of the assessment. We should be able to identify three different types of lines. A line continues in a straight path that does not stop (this is represented by a line with an arrow at each end). A line segment is a piece of a line that has two end points (this is represented by a straight line). Finally, a ray is a line with one end point that continues in one direction without stopping (this is represented as a line with one arrow at the end). Another area of focus was Quadrilaterals. These include squares, rectangles, rhombuses, trapezoids, and parallelograms. Students should be able to identify these shapes.. (We did an extensive review on this today). The next area of focus is angles. The three main angles are obtuse, right, and acute. They should be able to identify the angles within a triangle, as well as independently. Finally, students should be able to identify lines of symmetry. After we complete the test we will begin Chapter 11: Angles. Our focus will be measuring angles with a protractor for this chapter.
Spelling: Unit 5 Week 4: R-Controlled Vowels
Social Studies: In social studies, we will be taking our chapter 6 assessment using our notes. The students are very well prepared for our review day on Tuesday. After the test, we will refresh our memory of the states and capitals in the South East Region. Our test on these twelve states and capitals will be on Tuesday (April 25).
Writing: Our persuasive writing continues into this week. We are turning out focus onto a strong introduction paragraph and conclusion.
Grammar: Combining sentences with nouns.
